Biography

"b.1943 - 이강소는 1970년대 ‘신체제’, ‘A.G.그룹’, ‘대구현대미술제’, ‘서울현대미술제’ 등을 통해 미술 운동을 행했던 한국의 대표적인 실험 미술 작가이다. 그림, 판화, 비디오, 퍼포먼스, 입체 환경적 설치, 사진, 도예 등 다양한 매개체를 통해 작품성을 표현하는 예술가로 국내는 물론 해외에서 많은 관심을 받고 있다 그의 작품은 언제나 그가 만들어 낸 세계 안에서 인위적이지 않고 직감적으로 재창조된다. 그의 회화에 자주 등장하는 오리, 배, 사슴, 물, 구 름, 바위, 산 등은 그 형상을 인위적으로 디자인하는 것이 아니라, 적극적 사고를 배제한 채 손의 감각과 자연스러운 호흡을 따라 그리는 것이다. 오리가 자유의 혼을 상징할 수도 있고, 유령 같아 보이는 배를 고독과 정신적 성찰에 대한 은유로 이해할 수도 있다. 이들은 관객이 인식할 수 있는 실체적 형상으로 만들어졌으나 작가는 그 특정한 무엇을 표현하고자 한 것이 아니라 그의 직감과 유희를 관객이 스스로 상상하고 이해하기를 바란다. "
